These initiatives provide working professionals with affordable and high-quality educational opportunities at a Christian university to advance their careers.

“These programs reflect the University of Mobile’s commitment to equipping students with the knowledge, skills and values they need to excel in their fields,” said UM President Charles Smith. “Our graduates stand out as leaders who serve with excellence and integrity.”

New Lower Tuition for RN to BSN Online Program

The University of Mobile’s fully online RN to BSN program is now even more affordable, with a new lower tuition rate of $375 per credit hour starting in Summer 2025.

Graduates of UM’s Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program are eligible for a special scholarship that lowers tuition even more to $325 per credit hour.

Designed for working registered nurses, the RN to BSN program allows students to complete clinical hours on the job, ensuring flexibility and real-world application.

“At the University of Mobile, we are committed to providing high-quality, accessible nursing education,” said Dr. Sarah Witherspoon, dean of the School of Nursing in the Celia Wallace College of Health Professions. “Our new tuition structure makes it even easier for nurses to advance in their careers while continuing to serve their communities.”

“The MBA curriculum is designed to equip students with problem-solving, analytical reasoning and leadership skills essential for success in today’s business world,” said Dr. Kathy Dunning, dean of the Grace Pilot School of Business.

MBA students can now specialize in cybersecurity through a new cybersecurity certificate that prepares graduates to manage risk, protect data and mitigate cyber threats in an increasingly digital world.

The University of Mobile’s MBA program is internationally accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), ensuring that graduates receive a respected and career-enhancing degree.

Students can start the online MBA program or the hybrid/on-campus program any semester – summer, fall or spring. Classes are enrolling now for summer and fall semesters. Learn more and apply at umobile.edu/learn-more-business or call Enrollment Services at 251.442.2222.

University of Mobile Adds New Cybersecurity Concentration for High-Demand Career Field https://umobile.edu/2022/12/new-cybersecurity-concentration/ Tue, 13 Dec 2022 16:46:50 +0000 https://umobile.edu/?p=102394 MOBILE, Ala. – Looking for a career that’s a sure thing? The University of Mobile is offering a new cybersecurity concentration in the Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems program. The new offering prepares graduates for careers in a field that is growing 4 times faster than the average, with a median salary of over $90,000.

Applications are being accepted now for students interested in the cybersecurity concentration and any of the over 75 academic programs offered at the University of Mobile.

“Cybersecurity is a high-growth field with a huge demand for talent. Simply put, everyone and every business needs their systems, networks and programs protected against digital attacks. The University of Mobile’s new cybersecurity concentration prepares graduates for key certification exams that employers want,” said Dr. Kathy Dunning, dean of the Grace Pilot School of Business.

Dunning said the outlook for cybersecurity jobs only gets better in the future – by 2025, there will be 3.5 million unfilled jobs in the industry, according to estimates.

Information on the cybersecurity concentration is at umobile.edu/cybersecurity. Apply for admission at umobile.edu/apply.

To learn more about the University of Mobile, schedule a campus visit at umobile.edu/visit or contact the Office for Admissions at 251.442.2222 to speak with an admissions counselor.

UM’s cybersecurity concentration offers project-based classes that give students real-world experiences at a Christ-centered university where students are known by their professors. It prepares graduates for three key certifications:

  • Certified Computer Forensics Examine (CCFE)
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)*
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)*

*Additional work experience is required for CEH and CISSP certification.

“This concentration was developed in collaboration with Fortune 500 companies. It is a low code, project-based curriculum designed to give students strong critical thinking and practical cybersecurity skills,” said Dunning.

Graduates will earn a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems with a concentration in cybersecurity. Students have a fast-track option of earning both a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Business Administration in only five years, through UM’s Integrated 5-Year MBA program.

The cybersecurity concentration is the first of many academic offerings that will be introduced through the University of Mobile’s new partnership with the Lower Cost Models Consortium (LCMC) and Rize Education. The LCMC is a strategic partnership of private colleges and universities across the country that collaborates with Rize Education to gain access to cutting-edge curriculum that prepares students for successful careers.

The University of Mobile is a Christ-centered university with a vision of “Higher Education for a Higher Purpose,” founded to honor God by equipping students for their future professions in an environment where they are known.

The University of Mobile is a Christ-centered university with a vision of “Higher Education for a Higher Purpose,” founded to honor God by equipping students for their future professions in an environment where they are known.

The University of Mobile offers over 75 academic programs taught by faculty who are eager to know and mentor their students. Experiential learning gives students hands-on practice for their future profession. Upon graduation, students will have a deeper understanding of who they are and how they can make an impact in the world.

“We walk with students through their degree program and equip them with the skills and tools necessary to be competitive in their field. We want our students to understand their calling and know how to function in their career. We want them to know who they are before God, and how that impacts the world,” says Dr. Lonnie Burnett, president of the University of Mobile.

Alabama College Application Week began nine years ago to increase the overall number of students in Alabama applying to, and ultimately enrolling in, colleges.

According to Eric Mackey, Alabama state superintendent of education, “The goal of this campaign is to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students who pursue postsecondary education by assisting high school seniors with the college admissions process and ensuring that each participating student submits at least on admissions application.”

Southern Baptist Convention President Ed Litton to Speak at University of Mobile Graduation https://umobile.edu/2022/04/southern-baptist-convention-president-ed-litton-to-speak-at-university-of-mobile-graduation/ Tue, 26 Apr 2022 15:24:14 +0000 https://umobile.edu/?p=101509 MOBILE, Ala. – Dr. Ed Litton, president of the Southern Baptist Convention and senior pastor of Redemption Church in Saraland, Alabama, will deliver the commencement address at the University of Mobile on Saturday, May 7.

More than 300 graduates will be awarded bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in an outdoor ceremony on the Dr. Fred and Sue Lackey Great Commission Lawn. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10 a.m., and the audience is encouraged to arrive early.

For graduation details and to watch a live-stream of the ceremony, go to umobile.edu/graduation. In case of inclement weather, the graduation venue is Cottage Hill Baptist Church, 4255 Cottage Hill Road. Weather updates will be made on official University of Mobile social media accounts and on umobile.edu/graduation.

Dr. Ed Litton was born in Kingsport, Tennessee.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona; a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas; and a Doctor of Ministry from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

He served as a home missionary appointed to work in the evangelism office of the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention.  From there, he and his wife, Tammy, moved to Tucson and founded Mountain View Baptist Church.  In 1994, almost seven years after that work had been established, God led Dr. Litton to First Baptist North Mobile, now Redemption Church.

In 2007, Ed and his family, as well as the entire church family, suffered a devastating loss when Tammy was suddenly killed in an automobile accident. Several years later, he married Kathy Ferguson, a pastor’s wife who had also lost her spouse in a similar accident. Kathy serves as director of planter spouse development at the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. The couple each has three children from their first marriages.

Dr. Litton had come to a church in Alabama with a great vision. That vision continued to expand with a mission of reaching more people and making disciples through church planting and the expansion of multiple locations.  In September of 2015, the church relaunched as a new congregation called Redemption Church.

Today, Redemption is one church in two locations, both in North and West Mobile.  Redemption has helped plant churches in New York City; Cleveland, Ohio; Denver, Colorado; Tucson, Arizona; Leesburg, Virginia; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Northern Virginia, and Las Vegas.  In responding to the Great Commission, Redemption Church is looking to plant more gospel-believing churches in North America.

The University of Mobile is a Christ-centered university with a vision of “Higher Education for a Higher Purpose,” founded to honor God by equipping students for their future professions in an environment where they are known.
