Job Description:
The Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach is a full-time, 12-month staff member of the Department of Athletics at the University of Mobile. Reporting to the Athletic Director, this role provides leadership to both golf programs in a way that reflects the mission and vision of the University of Mobile: For Christ & His Kingdom.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead with Purpose: Direct all aspects of the men’s and women’s golf programs – recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, travel, training, and compliance with institutional, conference, and NAIA policies. The Head Coach will provide student-athletes with a transformational collegiate experience that integrates athletic competition, academic achievement, character formation, and Christ-centered leadership at the heart of the program.
- Invest in Student-Athletes: Mentor and disciple student-athletes, leading them in their personal, academic, athletic, and spiritual development, fostering growth and development consistent with the values of the University of Mobile.
- Develop a Championship Culture: Championship culture will come from creating a team environment marked by discipline, integrity, sportsmanship, and a pursuit of excellence that glorifies God both on and off the course.
- Recruit with Vision: Recruit and retain high-character student-athletes who embody the values of the University of Mobile and will make a lasting impact on the team, campus and community.
Position Qualifications (Educational credentials, skills and abilities):
- Christian who is an active member in local church.
- Supports Statement of Christian Affirmation (https://umobile.edu/about/mission/)
- Demonstrates the Imago Dei of Christ (Gen 1:26) in all aspects of one’s professional role, personal interactions and community relations.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 2 to 4 years of experience coaching golf at the college level
- The ability to communicate and work effectively with college student-athletes, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community
- Possess effective oral and written communication skills
- Committed to Christian philosophy, mission of the institution and statement of Christian Affirmation
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Enthusiastic and energetic personality
Position Responsibilities:
- Instruct and develop the student-athletes in fundamental skills and techniques to improve performance and growth in their sport
- Instruct student-athletes to incorporate a Biblical Worldview for them to be a positive impact in their communities upon graduation.
- Instruct student-athletes in life skills such as time management, teamwork and leadership and self-motivation
- Direct all coaching and managerial duties associated with practices and tournaments
- Recruit high character student-athletes and assist with their registration and housing
- Administer men and women’s golf budget and strictly adhere to budget limitations
- Coordinate management of home games with Athletic Director, Director Athletic Communications and Director of Game Day Experience
- Schedule opponents and present schedule to athletic director for approval
- Initiate and coordinate team travel arrangements and handle emergencies while traveling
- Responsible for maintenance of golf driving range and equipment
- Responsible for team discipline and behavior
- Coordinate eligibility for men and women’s golf
- Adhere to all NAIA and Southern States Athletic Conference rules
- Coordinate all public relations for men and women’s golf with Director Athletic Communications
- Initiate and lead in efforts to support, monitor and encourage academic success
- Inventory and storage of equipment
- Fundraising for men and women’s golf program
- Abide by the UM Coaches Handbook
- Attend departmental staff meetings and special events
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Athletic Director or Vice President for Student Development & Athletics
- Physical ability to do essential functions with or without accommodations
